Thriller Thursday is a daily blogging prompt used by many genealogy bloggers to help them post content on their sites. This is an ongoing series by Anne Kruszka at Gene Notes . Well my advice for you this evening is to NOT search under the term "abduction" in Flickr unless you want to have nightmares.  I'm squeamish at the best of times but abduction is obviously a medical term for suspending limbs et al.  Flickr Commons is full of lots of disturbing photos and drawings of the human anatomy. I was looking for the term "abduction" because I found a most interesting notice while searching Find My Past for more information about the Ellis family. I have spoken before of Kate Ellis leadi

#52Ancestorsin52Weeks Week 22/52 Kate Emilia FORFAR (nee ELLIS) - Conflict

Kate Emilia FORFAR (nee ELLIS)  - 1872-1905 Kate Amelia FORFAR nee Ellis Ahnentafel Number 15 Context for discovery This biography was written as part of the 52 ancestors in 52 weeks exercise devised by Amy Johnson Crow.  You can join in too here. Amy says Conflict seems to be part of human nature, and it can be an unpleasant thing to examine in our family history. (On the positive side, it can create records for us to use.) What ancestor was involved in a conflict, whether it was a war, a feud, or a legal matter ? Kate was my great-grandmother on my mother’s side of the family.  My mother never knew her maternal grandmother.  She died well before she was even thought of as my mother’s mother was only 2 years old when Kate died. As you will learn from this biography, conflict seemed to be very much part of her life. Childhood Kate was the eighth child born to George and Isabella Ellis (nee Sinclair).  The eighth of thirteen children, she was born on Tuesday 9th July 1872 at Rye Road, K

Mystery Monday

How to solve a mystery Well first up, I've got to assure you that really I have no idea how to solve this mystery so I am just going to steadily chip away at it and encourage you to chime in if you have any suggestions.  Those of you who have read my blog lately will know that I have in my possession some very old letters from a father to his son; namely A.C. Keep to Henry F Keep in 1883.  I would like to try and work out why they came into my maternal grandfather's possession. The importance of timelines Tonight, I am trying an experiment which is creating a comparative timeline of Henry F Keep, Walter William Forfar and Kate Amelia Ellis.  The two latter individuals were my maternal great-grandparents i.e. Kit McLoughlin (nee Forfar's) parents.  This is what I have created so far.   Henry F Keep Walter W Forfar Kate Amelia Ellis 1863 Henry b. 27 January
